The gap between the arch and the inner liner fills with salted slush in winter, and corrosion that starts there travels into the body panel. A cracked arch is not only a cosmetic problem — thrown stones then strike the air bellows and the brake lines directly.
On a coach with a broken liner, a new arch alone will not do. The two form a channel; if the channel is incomplete, water and mud still reach the body.
