Marker lamps tell oncoming traffic how wide and how tall the vehicle is; a missing or dim marker is a straight fail at inspection. On a Setra the roofline lamps seat on a gasket — once that gasket hardens it lets water in and green corrosion forms inside.
If one lamp is out, test the circuit first: marker lamps are fed in series and corrosion at one point kills the lamps after it. When switching to LED, a resistor module may be needed if the control unit watches for bulb resistance.
