If the backrest creeps forward or will not lock, the culprit is the toothed quadrant in the recliner. Once the teeth are rounded the lock will not hold no matter how the lever is pulled. This single part is replaced — there is no need to renew the whole seat, and the cost difference is large.
Check the synchronising shaft on the opposite side when fitting a new mechanism. If the shaft is bent, the new mechanism will go the same way quickly because the load falls on one side.
